The third of our 2009 Biodiversity Blitz Days was held on 27th July at Solutia (ST343846), a Gwent Wildlife Trust Reserve. The event was organised in conjunction with GWT and Newport County Borough Council. We were lucky to experience a dry day, although it was extremely windy.
Our focus on the day was within the boundary of the reserve and included all meadows and reens. A total of 243 records were collected during the event, with 140 species being new to our database for the site. A pretty little surprise on the day was a bee chafer (see photograph), which posed for our cameras! Another great find was that of the shrill carder bee which is a Biodiversity Action Plan species with few records in Gwent.
Thanks to all who came along on the day.
